Telecommande Enregistrement / Remote Start Stop for 5D or 7D

Comme les télécommandes habituelles contrôlent uniquement le shutter, la seule façon de reporter la commande d’enregistrement est d’utiliser une télécommande infra-rouge, dirigée vers le capteur IR du 5D et de déporter le bouton de cette télécommande car la position du senseur infra-rouge est en face avant, pas forcement pratique.

As the external shutter remote only control the shutter, the only way to remote the recording is to use a IR remote. But the IR need to be in front of the camera as the sensor is inside the camera hand-grip, not very convenient.

La telecommande originale

Voici une télécommande Canon RC6 capable de piloter les 5D et 7D. (coût 390 rmb, mais des modèles en copie existent pour 50 rmb)

Here is a Canon RC6 IR remote working for both 5D and 7D (cost around rmb 390 but copies available for rmb 50)

Il faut enlever la pellicule autocollante en face avant avec une lame de cutter (il y a deux feuilles) et doucement soulever la carte contenant les composants. Attention a enlever la baterie auparavant. Il y a aussi un petit interrupteur qui permet de retarder le déclenchement de deux secondes ou non, je l’ai retiré et me sert du trou pour y faire passer mon fil. (attention a la position, si vous laissez la position sur le mode retard de 2 secondes, chaque déclenchement sera retardé.

You need to remove the front adhesive layer (there is 2 layers) with a cutter  and gently remove the IC board. (Remove the battery before, of course). There is a small switch at the back to delay your remote order. Keep it in “no delay” position to avoid waiting time at each take. I remove the switch cap and use the empty hole for my remote wire.

The Shutter control

Ensuite j’ai utilisé une copie chinoise du contrôle du déclencheur pour n’importe quelle caméra ( coût 20 rmb), mais n’importe quel bouton poussoir peut faire l’affaire comme un bouton de sonnette par exemple

The remote is a cheap copy of the canon shutter release but any brand will do. In fact, any push button will do, so a bell push button is fine also

Il y a trois fils, mais seuls deux sont utiles car le bouton de déclencheur a 2 positions (demi pour focus et a fond pour la prise de photo). Il n’y a aucun risque a inverser les fils si vous ne savez pas comment les reconnaître, mais j’ai choisi ici d’utiliser les deux fils sortant pour le contact “demi” enclenchement.

There is 3 wires, but you need only two, you can exchange it, no worries. Usually, remote allow “half push” for focusing, and “full” for the picture. I decided to use the contact for “half”.

The inside

Il faut gratter la pellicule d’isolant sur les deux parties en cuivre pour y souder vos deux fils.

You need to scratch the grey isolating plastic in order to solder your wire.

Les Soudures

Un point de colle magique pour maintenir le câble et refermer le tout.

One small glue touch and it’s done!

Il reste a placer l’émetteur en face de la poignée du 5D et a régler le 5D en mode déclenchement par télécommande IR.

You can now put the remote in front of the camera grip and put the camera in the “IR remote” mode. (Very important…)

Vous pouvez désormais lancer l’enregistrement sans toucher le 5D et éviter les 3 première secondes souvent secouées de vos rush.

Now, you can start stop without losing the first and last second of each clip as the camera shaking…
